Be yourself

When I see people’s phones and their collections of photos, there is always a part of me that feels sad.  They scroll through panoramas, faces, parties, holidays, moments from their lives to remember forever.

I think of my own phone and the collection that I have – screen shots of positive messages, pages and pages of them, each one significant to me for one reason or another.  Each one reminding me of a lesson I’ve learnt, or one that I’m trying to learn.

Is that sad?  Or is it just who I am?  I’ve never been one for taking photos anyway and always think the moment is lost is the process.

“Don’t feel stupid if you don’t like what everyone else pretends to love”  Emma Watson.

On this day, as I write this, that was the last screen shot quote that I took and it seems quite poignant in this situation.  Such a simple sentence but so powerful.  Read it again.  Yes, that is what she said “what everyone else pretends to love”.

Truth and being true to yourself is at the core of that phrase.  We are so often pushed, bullied, pressured, to fit into certain categories, to be a certain way, to adopt certain clothes, words, music, and we are made to feel stupid if we don’t follow the crowd.

“It’s better to walk alone than with a crowd going in the wrong direction”  Spirit Science.

Never apologise for being who you are.  And never change who you are to fit in with others.

“Don’t stray away from yourself to get closer to someone else”  Positive Outlooks

Being who you are is the most important thing you can do in life.  It’s the only real thing that will make you truly happy.  When you are yourself, being who you are at heart, doing the things you enjoy, you will always be happy.  And if you are yourself, you will find the people who are like you, who enjoy the same things.

“Be yourself and the right people will find you….”
